Trumpet / Flugelhorn

Javier Pereiro was born in 1982, in Cangas de Morrazo, in Galicia (Spain). He started studying classical music at the age of 6 and trumpet at the age of 9. He studied at the Professional Conservatory of Music Manuel Quiroga of Pontevedra, where he obtained his Diploma of Professional Music Specialised in Trumpet and studied with some of the best classic trumpet teachers in the world, such as Maurice André, Eric Aubier, Javier Viceiro, Benjamín Moreno, Luis Amosa, Fran Mora, Jose Ortí, Esteban Batallán, Dominique Brunet and Sergio Pacheco.

He began his jazz education with Abe Rábade and Paco Charlín who became his mentors and who taught him the grounds of the genre in the Jazz Permanent Seminar of Pontevedra. He obtained hi degree in Music, branch Jazz - trumpet, at ESMAE with the great masters João Moreira and Nuno Ferreira, among others.

With the ESMAE Combo, he was awarded the First Prize for the Best Combo of Portugal Superior Schools at the Lisbon jazz festival “Festa do Jazz do São Luiz 2011”, where he also was awarded an honourable mention as a soloist.

Currently he is part of the Fernando Sánchez Quintet, Ton Risco Quintet, Chus Pazos Trio, Marcos Pin Tenteto and of the big band Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos.

He also leads his own groups such as GDJAZZ 4TET, that won the second prize at the Getxo International Jazz Contest 2010, and with which he produced his debut album Black May, recorded in 2009 by Free Code JazzRecords, with the contribution of Mike Moreno, Josh Ginsburg and E.J. Strickland.
