Trombone

Álvaro Pinto was born in Porto, in 1975. He began his musical studies at the age of 14 at the School of Banda de Música da STCP. In 1990, he joined the Porto Conservatory of Music. He completed his degree at ESMAE - School of Music, Arts and Performing Arts at Porto in 2003, in the Professor Jon Etterbeek class. He completed the Professionalization in Service at the University of Aveiro in 2009.

He has already worked with Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, Orquestra Sinfonieta, Filarmonia das Beiras, Orquestra do Norte, Sinfónica das Escolas de Música (1993), Orquestra de Câmara Musicare, Orquestra de Câmara de Braga, Orquestra de Câmara de Pedroso, Orquestra do Centro (Coimbra), Orquestra Sinfónica da Póvoa do Varzim, Grupo Música Nova and Grupo de Metais do Porto.

He participated in masterclasses with the trombonists Joseph Alessi, Benny Sluchin, Idalecio Manrique, Emidio Coutinho, Esmael Santos, Jonathan Pippen, Simon Cowen, Carlos Reinaldo Guerreiro, Ricardo Casero and in the Big Band Workshop directed by Cecil Bridgewater. He attended Wind Orchestra Direction courses with the conductors Alberto Roque and Délio Gonçalves. Currently, he attends the Direction course at the Academia Portuguesa de Banda with the conductor Paulo Martins.

From 2001 to 2006, he was the Pedagogical Director at the Conservatory of Music of Águeda. Currently, he teaches trombone classes at the Conservatories of Music of Coimbra and Jobra.
