Paulo Perfeito, trombonist, composer and teacher, was born in Porto in 1974. His musical studies began in the Banda Marcial da Foz do Douro, and continued at the Conservatory of Music of Porto, and later at the Jazz School of Porto.

After attending the Summer Jazz workshop by Jamey Aebersold in 1996, he was encouraged to continue his Jazz studies at the Berklee College of Music, where he obtained in 2001 the Bachelor of Music. In 2007, he obtained the Master of Music at the New England Conservatory and he is currently finishing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the prestigious Eastman School of Music.

Among the numerous awards he has received there are: the DownBeat Student Music Award in 2013, the Marian McPartland Scholarship, the Fulbright Scholarship, the Herb Pomeroy Award for Outstanding Jazz Composer and Arranger and the Young Creators Scholarship of the Centro Nacional de Cultura.

Paulo regularly collaborates with several institutions, including the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, Casa da Música, European Movement Jazz Orchestra, ESMAE, University of Aveiro, Music Academy of Espinho, Jobra Conservatory and Sines Arts School. He leads the Nu Jazz Orchestra, the sextet Paulo Perfeito, the Upstate Connection Unit, and he is a member of Ensemble Super Moderne, the Funky Bones Factory and the band of the singer-author Miguel Araújo.
