Soprano and Tenor Saxophone / Clarinet / Flute

José Pedro Coelho is a saxophonist and composer, who was born in 1984 and lives in Porto. He holds a degree in Jazz Performance by ESMAE, and studied with Carlos Azevedo, Paulo Maciel, Nuno Ferreira, Michael Laurent, among others.

He participated in the 1st National Youth Big Band directed by Pedro Moreira. He received the distinction of best new soloist in the 2nd Jazz Festival at Teatro S. Luiz, in Lisbon.

Since 2003, he is a member of the Orquestra Jazz of Matosinhos.

Among the musicians (or projects) with whom he has been recording his work are Mário Barreiros, André Fernandes, Demian Cabaud, Diogo Vida, Iago Fernández, Susana Santos Silva, Baba Mongol, Low Budget Research Kitchen (Frank Zappa music), Coreto, Gonçalo Marques or Júlio Resende. Currently, he has nearly twenty recording participations.

He leads his own quintet, with which he recorded "Clepsydra" in 2012, and works regularly with one of his more recent groups, the Ensemble Super Moderne, which released an album in 2014 with the same name.

He is a founding member of the Associação Porta Jazz composed of jazz musicians and that aims to boost the jazz scene in the city of Porto.
