"Boreal" marks the reencounter of Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos with Perico Sambeat - talented musician with a significant international reputation - in the triple role of composer, musical director and soloist.
After a first collaboration with Sambeat over fifteen years ago, in a concert dedicated to spanish jazz at Casa da Música, and a joint endeavour into the universe of Ornette Coleman in 2021, the big band from Matosinhos is now completely immersed in the musical imagery of this reference of contemporary jazz.
This record with Iberian roots is particularly shaped by the elegance of Sambeat's writing, with its dense harmonies full of lyricism, in the context of a large jazz ensemble familiar with a very broad artistic spectrum.
