Susana Santos Silva, trumpeter, improviser and composer, was born in Porto in 1979. In 2004, she received a degree in Trumpet at ESMAE - School of Music, Arts and Performing Arts in Porto, and attended the last year at the Stlaatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, in the Reinhold Friedrich class. In 2008, she completed a degree in Trumpet/Jazz also in ESMAE. In 2010, she completed a Masters in Jazz Performance at Codarts in Rotterdam, where she worked with Eric Vloeimans, Jarmo Hoogendjik, Wim Both, Dick de Graaf and Kris Goessens.

Susana is a member of the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos since 1998. She is co-founder member of the association Porta-Jazz and its record label, Carimbo. She is a member of the European Movement Jazz Orchestra, with whom she has performed in Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Portugal, Belgium and Croatia.

In 2011 she released her first album, Devil’s Dress. Her current projects include the Impermanence quintet, the LAMA trio, duos with Torbjörn Zetterberg, Kaja Draksler and Jorge Queijo, a trio with Zetterberg and Hampus Lindwall and a collaboration with the Belgian trio De Beren Gieren. In addition, she leads Life and Other Transient Storms, her new project with Lotte Anker, Sten Sandell, Torbjörn Zetterberg and Jon Fält. She also takes part in Coreto, João Guimarães Zero and Torbjörn Zetterberg Och Den Stora Frågan.
