Carlos Bica is one of the great references of Portuguese jazz, a universe where he moves for nearly three decades. The quality of the projects he develops gave him early on a European dimension. Among these stand out the trio Azul, which he leads since 1996, a collaboration of rare longevity with the German guitarist Frank Möbus and the American drummer Jim Black. The intense communication between the three musicians and the originality of the repertoire, with constant references to different genres (from rock and pop to traditional music), brought a recognition that has remained throughout the five albums. The Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos challenges the sparse sounds so striking in Azul, proposing new arrangements specially designed for this concert on a selection of themes of the trio.
